Ambala district has been selected for the National Award in NREGA Excellence Scheme

Ambala district has been selected for the National Award under the Scheme of Award for Excellence in National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), 2005 Administration for the year 2008-09.While disclosing this here today, an official spokesman said that in total 24 districts of 18 States of the country had been selected for the award. He said that during the year 2008-09 a total amount of over Rs. 40.38 crore had been utilized for the completion of 1861 development works. He said that a total number of 30082 families had been registered under the scheme out of which 27338 willing families were provided employment. 6189 families of the district had already completed 100 days employment under the scheme.He said that 49 percent women and 68 percent Schedule Caste families had availed the benefit of this scheme in the district. Under the NAREGA Act a person or a family had do register with the concerned Gram Panchayat. After registration, the person or family willing to work was provided a Job Card. They were provide employment in the development works being carried out by the Gram Panchayat in the village. He said that 60 percent of the funds allotted for the development were used on labour work, whereas 40 percent on the construction work.The award would be given in the annual function to be held for commemoration of the completion of the fourth year of the commencement of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 at the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on February 2, 2010, he added.It may be noted that the Ministry of Rural Development has been presenting awards to NGOs, officers of Department of Posts and Banks and the District Mahatma Gandhi NREGA Teams during the function. The Prime Minister, Mr. Manmohan Singh and the Chairperson of UPA, Mrs.Sonia Gandhi will also be present in the function, besides Union Ministers of State of Rural Development, Eminent members of the Central Employment Guarantee Council, Media Persons, Officers of the State Governments and UTs dealing with Mahatma Gandhi NREGA and workers.Besides Ambala district of Haryana, the districts, which have been selected for the awards include Chittoor and Kurnool of Andhra Pradesh, Raipur and Bastar of Chhattisgarh, Kangra of Himachal Pradesh, Deogarh of Jharkhand, Iduki of Kerala, Belgaum and Gulbarg of Karnataka, Balaghat and Chindwara of Madhya Pradesh. Aurangabad and Gadchiroli of Maharashtra, Senapati of Manipur, Mayurbhanj and Ganjam of Orissa, Ajmer and Udaipur of Rajasthan, North Tripura of Tripura, Nagapathhinam and Villupuram of Tamil Nadu and Burdhman and 24 North Paraganas of West Bengal.
